It has historically been used as a last-ditch effort to save the patient’s life when traditional methods of treatment have proven ineffective. The Process of The Whipple Procedure The most common use of the procedure, a surgical technique named after Dr. Samuel J. Whipple, is to remove tumors of the duodenum near or next to the head of pancreas which can result in a malignant tumor called duodenal cancer.
